How it worksRDS-TMCSUNA Traffic Channel uses the International Standard for traffic information services, called TMC (Traffic Message Channel). It is broadcast using another International Standard called RDS (Radio Data Service). Traffic services like SUNA Traffic Channel are often referred to as RDS-TMC. The road incident and traffic information is gathered from multiple points on the road network using SCATS or STREAMS data from traffic light intersections. Traffic models enable data to be formatted into TMC traffic events. These TMC traffic events are then encoded and silently transmitted within the FM broadcast TMC messages are then received and decoded by TMC capable navigation devices. The decoding allows the navigation system to advise you of any delays that may appear on your planned route. |
