What is Suna-Traffic?
Suna Traffic Channel is an affordable automotive grade service that helps motorists avoid unexpected congestion, enables the freight and logistics sector to schedule more effectively, and brings traffic to web sites and mobile phone services.
Suna Traffic Channel connects navigation devices to real-time road traffic information. With Suna Traffic Channel, you can get more value every day, on every trip from your navigation system by helping answer questions like:
| |
How long am I delayed? |
| |
Should I detour? |
| |
When will I arrive? |
| |
What is causing this jam? |
By being better informed, motoring is less frustrating, and by avoiding severe and unexpected congestion you may even arrive sooner.
A global standard for Australian traffic – TMC
Suna Traffic Channel is built to comply with the international ISO standard, Traffic Message Channel (TMC). Suna is ready to bring a new dimension to navigation, web and mobile services through real-time traffic.
Suna Traffic Channel information is engineered ready to plug into any TMC-compliant navigation, logistics or mapping system.
There are two distinct elements to the Suna Traffic Channel solution:
- The Suna Content.
- The Sun Access method.
Content
Suna Traffic Channel information uses both travel speed and incident data on each road segment.
This information is based on data collected from traffic light systems that measure traffic congestion as well as probe vehicles and observed traffic incidents.
The congestion information is collected from thousands of intersections across the entire metropolitan area providing a continuously updated picture of traffic conditions.
Access
Suna Traffic Channel is broadcast using the Radio Data System (RDS). RDS-TMC is the technology that already enables millions of navigation systems to receive real-time traffic information across Europe and North America.
RDS-TMC silently codes the Suna Traffic Channel information onto an existing FM broadcast service, it is then received by a navigation system and used to identify and, if possible, avoid the traffic.
Suna Traffic Channel information is also available as an XML feed. XML-TMC supports GPRS delivery to navigation systems plus web and wireless applications. Many mapping services are designed to take an XML-TMC feed as a standard feature allowing quick and easy integration of Suna Traffic Channel.
User Device / Interface
Suna will also support traffic information services independent of delivery method: GPRS delivery to navigation systems; and an XML feed for servicing web and wireless applications. The TMC standard enables the Suna traffic channel services to support many devices and access methods each retaining full control of user interface, route calculation and other points of differentiation.
