SUNA GPS Traffic Updates - Reception Areas
SUNA GPS Traffic Updates are transmitted across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth metropolitan areas. Within each broadcast area, we transmit traffic updates for major arterial roads, freeways, and tollways.
In cities where the SUNA service is operating, you will enjoy one of the world’s most comprehensive real-time traffic services.
Melbourne & surrounds (including Geelong): We monitor up to 2,710 km of roads for construction, accidents, and other events impacting road users. Of these, 1,700 km of main roads and freeways are automatically monitored for traffic congestion 24/7 though our automated sensor systems.
Sydney & surrounds: We monitor up to 3,251 km of roads to provide warnings of accidents, construction, and other events impacting road users. Of these, 1,365 km or main roads are automatically monitored for traffic congestion 24/7 through our automated sensor systems and camera feeds.
SE Queensland (Brisbane and Gold Coast): We monitor up to 2,218 km of main roads and freeways in this region. Approximately 1,282 km of this is achieved through our automated sensor systems. Separate transmitters operate in Brisbane and the Gold Coast providing a continuous coverage footprint from the NSW border to the southern Sunshine Coast.
Adelaide & surrounds: We monitor up to 1,919 km of roads in this region. We monitor the roads through multiple independent sources of data, transmitting incident and congestion information.
Perth & surrounds: We monitor up to 2,013 km of roads in this region. We monitor the roads through multiple independent sources of data, transmitting incident, accident, road works and congestion information.
Canberra & surrounds: We monitor up to 508 km of roads in this region. We monitor the roads through multiple independent sources of data, transmitting incident and congestion information.
Notes:
- The TMC table includes some hinterland towns that are outside the capital city FM reception area. Sensor-derived coverage is concentrated within the reception area. Distances are road length (ie, bidirectional coverage is approximately double).
- Traffic Messages cannot be broadcast on local roads even if we are aware of incidents on these roads (TMC location codes are not available for these roads). As a general rule, we try to cover most freeways, toll ways, and arterial roads (arterial roads include the majority of roads with signalised intersections).
