How do I get SUNA GPS Traffic Updates?

SUNA traffic information is available through a compatible navigation device (portable or in-dash) or smartphone navigation application. Most compatible navigation systems will automatically lock onto the SUNA service and begin working as soon as they are connected to power.

From a technical perspective, most portable and in-dash navigation devices leverage the SUNA 'RDS-TMC' digital broadcast, which is encoded in an otherwise normal FM radio broadcast in each city. A conventional radio receiver will hear nothing, but a compatible navigation system will lock onto the correct frequency and decode this information. All currently available SUNA RDS-TMC compatible devices provide 'lifetime' access to the service, with no more to pay for the life of the device.

New GPS devices compatible with the SUNA RDS-TMC service are available to purchase across Australia from your preferred local electronics retailer or department store. An increasing number of in-dash systems (available from car dealers and aftermarket channels) are also ready to receive the service.

A number of 'connected' navigation devices now offer connection to the SUNA service (and a range of other location based services on Smartphones) via a 'mobile internet' connection. Subscription and carriage arrangements for these 'connected' navigation services vary by model.

Compatible navigation devices may be purchased with the SUNA service 'in the box', (some models may be upgraded through the purchase an additional piece of hardware such as a TMC Cradle or antenna). In either case, the cost of the SUNA service is included and there are no ongoing fees.
